We just completed our first major kitchen renovation with Taylor and Kailee from House of Hive, and honestly, this experience completely changed how we think about what's possible with home design. This was our first time working with a designer for any project, and we couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the process.

I'm sure like a lot of people, we were seeing the same cookie-cutter kitchens everywhere - the standard white shaker cabinets, the quick flip aesthetic that's all over San Diego. We knew that wasn't us, but as first-time renovators without a trusted contractor in the area, we felt pretty overwhelmed about how to achieve something that actually represented our style.

After looking through what felt like every portfolio from different design firms in San Diego (most of which honestly looked stale and like rooms you wouldn't want to actually live in), we serendipitously discovered House of Hive on TikTok of all places! What immediately drew us in was how their work screamed creative risk-taking - they blend traditional design styles in ways that create these really beautiful, unique flavors for each project. Even though they were a relatively new firm, their renderings and ongoing projects on their website showed exactly the kind of fresh, innovative thinking we were looking for.

From our very first meeting, we just clicked with Taylor and Kailee. What's typically an incredibly expensive and stressful process was honestly just... fun. Every single interaction from there on out was enjoyable. They have an amazing ability to take your inspiration and distill it into a cohesive design style and inspiration deck. This jumpstarts the process and next they are able to show you full renderings with various options for different budgets. The entire process from start to finish is seamless and you can be as involved as you want as the client.

We were probably more hands-on clients than most (we love seeing under the hood and being involved in the creative process), but they made us feel like we were part of a super capable team rather than just clients. The communication was 10/10 - through their project management platform we could get notifications via email or the app and regular progress updates throughout the process, and they were always reachable by phone if anything urgent came up.

What really sets Taylor and Kailee apart is how their unique and complementary approaches allow them to reach an elevated level of design that I honestly believe will end up featured in Architectural Digest someday.

Our kitchen is absolutely gorgeous and is a true representation of us and the way we want to feel and want our guests to feel in our home. We're incredibly pleased with the result and would recommend House of Hive to anyone doing a major renovation who wants it to look beautiful in a way that represents who you are while elevating the function of the space far beyond what you can imagine. We'll definitely be using them for all our future projects, and to be honest, now that we're done, we actually miss working with them!

Taylor did an amazing job on a whole house remodel we did from Nov 2022 to July 2023. She was our point person for the entire project from initial design/plans through to project execution and furniture delivery.
