Our Story

Kailee and Taylor met in San Diego in 2020, after both relocating from the East Coast. Their paths crossed at a design-build firm in Solana Beach, where they quickly discovered a shared vision, strong work ethic, and mutual love for thoughtful interiors. Over the next three years, they built a seamless design partnership, leading high-end residential projects across Southern California.

Driven by a desire to create something distinct, they launched House of Hive in 2023. From the start, the firm stood out for its bold, curated aesthetic and refusal to repeat the expected. After coining the now-viral phrase “bookshelf wealth”, House of Hive became synonymous with interiors that are layered, personal, and richly detailed, earning recognition across the design world.

Today, House of Hive specializes in highly custom residential projects. Every space is rooted in intention and crafted to feel like no other.

At House of Hive, every project begins with you. Our process is collaborative, creative, and deeply personalized, resulting in designs that are as functional as they are beautiful and unlike anything else.

Kailee holds the belief that the foundation of exceptional design lies in a well-planned and executed project. She is dedicated to collaborating with clients to curate truly remarkable spaces.

Kailee is inspired by the organic and intricate forms of art nouveau and has a strong connection to traditional design. She enjoys blending antiques with custom pieces to craft a refined aesthetic.

Equipped with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Rollins College and a Master of Professional Studies in Project Management from Georgetown University, she possesses a unique blend of artistic creativity and organizational expertise.

Prior to co-founding House of Hive Design Co., Kailee worked for multiple boutique firms across Florida, Washington D.C., and Southern California. Kailee held the position of Lead Interior Designer at a design-build firm where she managed projects from initial concept to construction completion.

Taylor's design philosophy is centered around creating the unexpected, with every decision driven by intent and meaning.

She is deeply influenced by mid-century modern style, which she embraces for its timeless simplicity, elegance, and seamless integration of form and function. She’s drawn to the era’s clean lines, organic shapes, and a careful balance of natural materials.

Taylor has a deep admiration for architect Louis Kahn, whom she considers a "master manipulator of natural light," and draws inspiration from his work in her own design approach.

With three degrees in Interior Design, Architecture, and Business from SUNY Alfred State College, she applies a multidisciplinary approach to her work. Before co-founding House of Hive, Taylor held several lead designer roles across residential, commercial, and educational design markets. With her background knowledge in high-end luxury remodels, project management, and construction drawings, she can assure you that you are in capable hands throughout every phase of your project, from start to finish.
